Simplified design of independent hydropower-PV-storage micro-grid system

Abstract: Independent microgrid with renewable energy is a suitable and sustainable solution to provide electricity power in areas without electricity. Nowadays microgrid with strong theory still has difficulties to be spread because of the poor operability. In order to solve the barrier of the current microgrid project, this paper proposed a simplified design of an independent hydropower-photovoltaic energy storage microgrid system. According micro sources and load characteristics of the project location, calculating the system power demand is required to get the configuration capacity of photovoltaic、hydropower and other power sources. For maximum the reliability of power system supply, this paper brings forward two key appraisal indicator of the system:the power system shortage rate and energy leakage ratio in order to reasonably coordinate each output of power sources in microgrid system to meet the load requirements in each time period and to ensure the real-time power balance between the load requirements and the output of each power source module in the microgrid. The configuration capacity of the battery storage system in the microgrid system can be calculated based on these two indicators. This article summarizes a set of general design methods for microgrid which provides convenience for engineering designers that engaged in microgrid field.
