Abstract: Utilizing the abandoned mine to construct pumped storage plant is not only a new form of exploration, but also a bidirectional product on account of the demand of power market and ecological environment restoration. Based on the clear definition of three utilization patterns to different mines, three aspects including mine site selection, kinetic energy estimation, and project layout have been researched and verified in the typical case in the technical feasibility analysis. And the purpose of this paper is to provide reference for further design and project layout optimization of pumped storage plant utilizing abandoned mine.

Key words: abandoned mine, pumped storage plant, utilization patterns, underground, coal mine
