Application of active magnetic bearings in flywheel systems

Abstract: With various appealing advantages over traditional bearings, active magnetic bearings are used successfully in flywheel energy storage systems. In this paper, firstly, their application in flywheel systems around the world were introduced. Then, key technology problems needing to be solved in high-speed flywheels with active magnetic bearings were discussed. At last, the application of active magnetic bearings for a high-speed flywheel system in the future was prospected.
